We face numerous of dilemmas and conflicts that help us filter our true ideology in respect to the society we live in and the cultural background we have embraced. Although there's a pool of issues that I can address that has affected me as both a western born and an eastern raised, the most heated of issues facing us right now is the image of Muslims in the West, particularly the irony of September 11 and the time of Eid Al-fitr.
If you're an avid listener or analyst of the news, you can tell, as closer as we get to the anniversary of 9/11, it seems as though the media wants to prepare and enrage listeners to the date. One can say its all coincidental, but what is it on purpose? Time Magazine having an Issue cover titled "Is America Islamophobic", The heat behind building the Islamic Center in NYC or better known as "Ground Zero Mosque" , 99 Lashes of a Persian woman and the negative portrayal of injustice towards women in Islam, the intention of burning the Quran by Pastor Terry Jones, Investigating the " Jamaican Radical Sheikh", who apparently "influenced convicted terrorists" one of whom which is the so-called "Shoe bomber", and the list can really go on.
All of these issues and articles state some true facts, but how it is conveyed is something that needs to be addressed. For the Average American Reader, the misleading connotations within these articles subconsciously builds negativity. They don't realize why, but the wording is convincing enough to not investigate what else is behind the story, why is it an issue, and how are people truly affected?
So as a representative of both worlds, be an Advocate of obliviousness, Investigate the truth around you. Influence the people around you with having the advantage of embracing two opposite ideologies, research, and of course Learn.
